BESA quality standards

BESA quality standards

BESA has a proud heritage, having been established in 1904 as the National Association of Master Heating and Domestic Engineers. BESA has been known by several names through the years, most notably as the Heating and Ventilating Contractors’ Association (HVCA) for nearly 50 years. We have evolved to reflect the changing needs of our members and the sector, and in 2012 we rebranded to the Building & Engineering Services Association (B&ES) to reflect the growing range of specialisms covered by our members. Now trading as BESA.

The badge of quality attained through BESA’s independent competence assessment signals the professional standards to which we operate. The health and safety assessment carried out as part of our membership safeguards our business, employees and customers.

Best Practice in Refrigerant Management means working to industry Codes of Practice and in compliance with all current legislation to ensure containment of refrigerant of any type. Work activities covered include installation, commissioning, servicing, maintenance, leak checking and decommissioning on any kind of stationary refrigeration, air conditioning or heat pump equipment.

Their objective is to encourage employers to operate entirely to industry best practice; for them to be environmentally aware and to operate entirely in compliance with current legislation; for their operatives to be suitably trained and competent to carry out their work in accordance with Company procedures. They achieve this by administering the voluntary Refcom Elite scheme, a set of high professional standards recognised by The Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Industry Board (ACRIB) and the RAC Industry.
